BOMM

February 04, 2020

Fresh flavors for whatever you’re in the mood for, BOMM in Kralingen has a variety of choices that are as enticing as they are exciting.

While biking back home after a day out at the lovely Kralingse Bos this weekend, nothing enticed my senses more than having a cocktail. I mean the timing couldn’t have been better. There I was with my partner knowing the sun would be setting in a few hours given the shorter autumn days and there I was thinking, ‘A cocktail sounds pretty good right now.’ I was on Sunday Funday mode.

Lucky for us, BOMM was close by - a place that we would have missed had it not been for its large glass storefront window showcasing its cozy and charming interior. We went in for a cocktail and left happy having discovered a place full of new things to try.

Just looking at their menu, this is the very thing that BOMM prides itself in. And rightfully so, the place not only offers seasonal specials but adds lip smacking touches to cafe and bistro classics. To some this may sound over the top, but unique and diverse is something they champion and something I was delighted to find was not excluded in their drinks. Upon taking that first sip it became apparent that standard is not what they are aiming for, but something better, something cozy, something inviting and something personal.

Last Friday, GayRotterdam launched the English-language website. The range is more than 30x larger, from 25 million Dutch speakers to 765 million English speakers. We will probably get busier on the editors!

On Saturday September 28th, the annual Pride Walk took place in Rotterdam as part of the Rotterdam Pride. Hundreds of people gathered at the Leuvenhoofd where a moment of silence was held before they left towards the city in a large procession. Many groups walked 'armed' with flags and banners, such as COC, The Hang-out 010, Out & Abroad, Erasmus Pride, Unilever, Leather Pride, Mankracht and many more. Many people were dressed and that made for a festive and cheerful street scene! Photographer Vera Bos joined the walk with her camera and made this beautiful photo series. Have you spotted yourself in the pictures?

Keerweer

You haven’t really experienced gay night life in Rotterdam without having been to the Keerweer! For years Café de Keerweer – named after the street the cafe is situated on - has been one of the most well-known gay bars of Rotterdam. Although the Keerweer opens its doors as early as 16.00 the fun really starts after midnight.

Nostra

Hospitality at its best

Expect a warm welcome at this lunch and wine bar with a varying menu and high quality food. Nostra has always been known as Strano’s gastronomic counterpart across the street.

If you’re familiar with the media landscape of our times, you’re no stranger to the spectacle of competition programs. In recent memory this is a format that has brought us everything from top chef and top drag queen competitions, to survivalist naked people on seemingly deserted islands.

Rotterdam had the Dutch scoop with the first "Community City Guide" from Facebook. This Rotterdam city guide is composed by various Facebook groups in and about Rotterdam, including GayRotterdam.
